Tribute to one of the vocals of our time!!

You may be aware that Loleatta Holloway passed away this week, hence this track is posted as a tribute to one of the finest female vocalists to have graced the dance music scene.
Everyone will have their own favourite Loleatta track, like "Relight My Fire", "Hit and Run" or "Love Sensation", not to mention all the Black Box tracks which plagiarised her vocals.
This track was originally released way back in 1984 with a superb vocal from Loleatta, however it is the house remake which I like best (which I don't think is actually Loleatta on the vocal).
It is fast funky, contains some wonderful storming piano and is truly anthemic.
It's a truly awesome track.
In fact they are both truly wonderful tracks in the own right.

I wanna be the only one!!!

Absolutely massive remix by the man that is Paul Gotel.
He takes a very mediocre Eternal (post Louise) track and turns it into a huge club anthem.
There's also some great vocals by BeBe Winans.
But it's the PG remix which makes this track sensational.
That little ticking, clucking riff in the background and then the huge build up, the key changes and the great vocal delivery.

As always with their work it has superb production and just oozes quality.
I've always been a huge New Order (and Joy Division) fan, but I've never really liked too much of their stuff on the dancefloor.
However, this is a cracking remix as you'd expect from BiR.
Barney's vocals are spot on and you can't beat that electric guitar riff.

It's been ages since I played this one and I'd forgotten what a fantastic track it is.
Justin Robertson was probably one of the hottest remixers of that period circa 1992.
His style of music at that time was bang on the money and he produced some great stuff.
This brings back some great memories of Back To Basics in Leeds at the Music Factory.
The track is a true progressive house classic - enough said.

Evening all, I hope you've had a good week.
Here's another big fave of mine from back in 1995.
I used to love the way this one built and then the first piano chord dropped.
It always had a huge effect on the dancefloor.
Just a really good dance track this one, quite varied in it's style, a bit vocally, a bit proggy, yet very housey.
Deep indeed!!

Now as many of you will know, nearly all the tracks posted on this blog are pre 2000, as IMHO the quality of music; dance, house etc was so much better in those periods (1987 to 2000) and only the finest quality club classics get posted.
However, every now and again a great track comes along which really stands out.
Here is one such track.
I get quite a lot of new tracks sent to me and in truth most of them are pretty naff (electro crap), however this one is pure quality.
A huge piano stormer - which is very similar in feel to the monstrous Eric Prydz - Pjanoo (which IMHO was one of the best tracks of recent years).
Thanks to the guys from Grapevine Grooves for sending it through. This is quality chaps!!

Now I get sent loads of tracks, some superb, mostly good and one or two a bit naff, but all are always fully appreciated.
However, every now and then someone sends me a track which I haven't heard before and one that totally blows my socks off.
Well this is one such track. A big shout out to Jason for sending me this one, nice one fella.
The track is absolutely top notch, very much in a Chris and James stylee, (yeah it totally rocks), with a great build up and a banging pounding anthemic feel .
Some fantastic vocals by Toni Childs (pictured), it's an out and out club stormer.

Apologies for the lack of posts recently, things have been pretty hectic of late.
However, glad to report that I'm back with a bang!!
Here's a really old fave of mine and yet another PCC.
A big shout out to Andrew for reminding me of this one and supplying the link - Respect fella!.
About the track, well it's probably one of WoW's finest, with some beautiful spine tingling piano chords and breakdowns - simply sumptuous.
This one used to go down a storm in clubs back in 1994, it's not too dissimilar to the Miro - Pure Silk track which I've posted previously (which is a bit faster) - but both have lush piano breakdowns.

R.I.P. Deano!!!

It fills me with extreme sadness to hear of the tragic loss of an old mate.
Dean Richards passed away yesterday at such a tender age of 36.
Dean was a superb footballer, one of the best at breaking out of defence with the ball at his feet.
He was widely regarded and respected at all the clubs he played for and was a a true fans favourite at Bradford City, Wolves, Southampton and Spurs.
Here's a great picture of him doing what he did best, marshalling the defence.
He was a big fan of dance music and we shared many great nights out together in our younger days.
My sincere condolences go to all your family and especially your two young boys.
Deano R.I.P. buddy you will be sadly missed.
I dedicate this track to you as I know it was one which you loved (one we both loved) and one we used to blast out of our car stereos on our way to nights out.
I know you will be up there looking down with a grin on your face, nodding your head along to this one.

I remember hearing Tony Ross open his set with this track at an Ark event in Bradford in 1991.
It's an absolutely beautiful piece of music, very dramatic and yes it feels very Soviet.
Not a typical club track, but a great way to open your set, although I do remember it being fairly quite and difficult to hear above all the noise and excitement of the clubbers.
I was a big fan of Electronic - bringing together two of my favourite bands (New Order/Barney Sumner and The Smiths/Jonny Marr).
Jonny Marr was a musical genius and one of the greatest guitarist's of his generation.
Electronic produced some fine stuff.

Now the great man didn't produce that many great remixes, but I totally love this one.
You probably all remember the original pop version which was a huge pop chart hit way back in 1986.
Well this was made in 1992 and I absolutely love it.
Very funky and very squelchy, but really, really catchy.
Ok you could say it's a bit cheesy, but a little cheese is an essential part of a healthy dance music diet!! Lol.

The Beloved have always been a band I have loved.
Jon Marsh's vocals are IMHO the best male vocals out there. Talk about soothing.
We always used to play lot's of The Beloved on Sunday's winding down from some chaotic clubbing the night before. It was perfect to soothe your soul.
This track came much later 1996, but it is absolutely exquisite, bordering on perfection.
The whole feel and atmosphere of the track just takes me to another place.
Pure bliss!!!

No don't worry I'm not being totally narcissistic, just quoting some great lyrics.
Totally love this track, which again was a huge Sasha track back in 1991.
The vecoded version (The Dead Zone Mix) was the one for me, an absolutely superb, blend of blissed out squelchy acid on a house vibe. Deep and dirty!! Pure quality, a fantastic and really innovative remix by Mr Morales.
For those who prefer the more classic house the Morales Club version is more like the Morales we know and love, perfect, perfect house music. Great rhythm, lush vocals by Jody Watley and some mighty fine piano.. just lovely!! I've also posted the Def Dub version which is also great with that superb looping piano, but less vocally!

Still under a love strain?

I posted this track quite some time ago and posted the absolutely sumptuous Morales (Lost in jungle) remix, which is a true PCC.
However, this dub version (also done by Morales) is equally good and is the version which Sasha used to play out in 1992.
I remember a great night at the Corn Exchange in Leeds (probably a Soak event, my memory escapes me), when this was dropped to great effect.
It's very different to the "Lost in  jungle" mix which is a real house classic vibe, this version is quite a bit quicker in tempo, very funky and laced with some lovely piano. When those vocals drop - you're in heaven - trust me!!
It just goes to show the power of remixing, here Morales does two completely different remixes, both are amazing and yet so different. Viva House Music!!!
I can't choose between them, as I think they are both fantastic versions?

This was always a big track back in 1991 and it seemed every DJ at that time played it out.
There were some good Masters at Work remixes of this, but this was the version which really shook the dancefloor.
There's not much of the original in here with the exception of the track title, but the energy of the track is very powerful.
It bubbles and fizzes along and isn't a lot dissimilar to some of the type of tracks Sasha used to play (and make) circa 1992 onwards.
It'll always bring back great memories of those heady times in '91 for me though.

808 State in the house!!!

I remember the first time I heard this back in 1990 and it absolutely blew me away.
It was so raw at the time and massively influential.
The opening electric guitar is superb and then it rips into the mighty keyboard riff.
There's loads of mixes of this one, but IMHO the original mix was always the best.
The Pan American Excursion is also quality, but it doesn't have that brilliant electric guitar riff and that raw edge.
An absolutely top notch track from back in the day!!

This was proper techno, before techno became a dirty word.
Very Oribital sounding which probably isn't a surprise as Paul Hartnoll is behind it.

This one was massive and was one of Oakey's big trance tracks back in 1999.
It has such an amazing atmosphere and feel to it.
I loved the little "squeeky" riff in it as well.
Trance never sounded so good.

This is a huge, huge favourite of mine and one I've been after for ages.
It's a fantastic house track, very much in a Frankie Knuckles remix style (although I don't believe that the great man has had any hand in it).
From start to finish is is absolutely top drawer.
Truly fantastic vocals, some wonderful lyrics, lots of lush piano chords, simply stunning.
Give it two or three listens and you'll be hooked.

This was another huge track back in 1991.
It sounds a tad cheesy now, particularly the ZZZZ, ZZZZ, bits which I always hated.
However, the track has a magical feel about it and the intro is just superb.
When that used to come on in a club it was absolutely tops and the palace would go radio rental!!
I love that bubbling throbbing bassline as well, loads of energy!!!

Now I'm sure you all know the  poppier version of this track, but this remix is absolutely par excellence.
It is so different from the original, but oh, so good.
It used to be a big Sasha track, back in the day and I have fabulous memories of dancing to this at Soak events in Leeds Corn Exchange back in 1992. Believe me this one used to bring the roof down!!!
Hats off to Farley and Heller, this remix is a Pure Club Classic - storming.

This was IMHO one of their (Farley and Heller's) best tracks.

It came out in 1973, that's nearly 40 years ago and it still sounds absolutely fantastic.
This was the TSOP (The Sound of Philadelphia).
From start to finish it is a musical masterpiece, the saxophone is to die for.
People will still be loving this track in another 40 years.
It was also a big track at Shoom in those early days of Acid House.
Superlatives fail to do it justice. Musical heaven!!!
