R.I.P. Dance music pioneer!

Sorry to hear of the passing of Vangelis this week aged 79.

Unquestionably one of the most pioneering dance music forefathers.

He created tracks which could be rivalled by no other for their uniqueness and just astounding quality.

Alpha will always be one of my favourite tracks and one which always raises spirits and puts me "in another place"

The build up of this track, is just pure delight and the peak at 4.12 is spine-tingling!

I know I've posted this track before, but it is certainly worthy of a re-post!

R.I.P great one!

Ready for the biggest Night of the Year??

New Years Eve was always my favourite night of the clubbing year.
It always had that much more excitement and expectation than a normal night, but that was before everything went crazy with ridiculous price hikes and sheer exploitation, which became the norm in late 90's.
It always used to fascinate me in terms of what would the DJ drop at 12 o' clock.
What track captures that perfect moment that creates the fantastic atmosphere to build the rest of the night on.
Over the years on the PCC blog I've posted many tracks and comments from my fantastic NYE experiences of tracks which were dropped at midnight. The best was most definitely "Digitalis - Accepting and Giving" - how perfect it is to have your all time favourite track dropped at the perfect moment. Heaven!!
I also remember Sasha dropping "Vangelis - Chung Kuo" mixed into "Orbital - Belfast" which was fantastic.
Here's another fantastic Vangelis track which I feel would be perfect for dropping at midnight.
(I've been wanting to post this track for ages, but have been waiting for the right moment).
Dropped at midnight it would slow everything down and then build up all the atmosphere and excitement again.
The track is sheer musical perfection, Vangelis certainly produced some amazing tracks, this one dates back to 1981.
It starts off very slowly, but just builds and builds until it literally explodes.
The part at 4 mins 11 seconds never falls to take me into another place, it is most definitely one of the most uplifting pieces of music I've ever come across.
Any DJ's out there brave enough to drop this at midnight tonight? Go on -I dare you!!
Cue it at 11.55pm and it will explode right on Midnight.
I'm always keen to hear of other great tracks which people have heard DJ's drop at midnight on NYE, so let me have your comments and memories.
Have a great night and enjoy it to the max, Happy New Year to one and all from the PCC Blog!!

A (belated) Happy New Year to you all!!

I hope you have all had a great festive break, apologies for the lack of posts, but I've been short of time recently.
How was New Year's Eve for you all?
It was always by favourite night of the clubbing year, but it could also be one of the most frustrating as you'd often pay extortionate amounts for tickets and the events quite often failed to live up to the billing.
One of my big fascinations was what track would get dropped at midnight to bring in the New Year.
I guess it was always something that DJ's would have a dilemma over also.
One of the best I heard out was "Accepting and Giving - Digitalis" dropped at midnight, but then hey that's my all time favourite track which sounds fantastic no matter when it's played out.
Another great memory was Sasha dropping this Vangelis track at Leeds Warehouse in 1991 NYE at midnight, he then mixed it in to "Orbital - Belfast".
The Vangelis track is pure bliss, an amazing floaty piece of beautiful balearic ambience.  It was certainly a cracking way to bring the New Year in as I distinctly remember floating in a sea of "ecstatic" bliss. Hard to believe it was 20 years ago!!
Vangelis made some great tracks in their time and there'll be more to come from them on the blog, Oakey used many of their tracks to great effect in his mixes.
What tracks do you remember being dropped at midnight on NYE which had a lasting impression on you?
Let me know your thoughts.

Staying on Themes

Whilst on themes, another classic. This time the theme from Blade Runner.
This was huge in clubs in the 90s.
Produced by the legendary Vangelis.
Check out that tinkly piano.
