Respect to two music legends!

Manchester vibes in the place (although more on the Balearic tip, than club dance)!

A superb track which encapsulates the Manchester and later Madchester scene which we were so very much part of.

The clubs, the bands, the songs, the fashion, the clothes, the attitude, were such a huge part of my teenage years and early 20's.

The music lives on and still stands the test of time.

This is an amazing tribute to the late Tony Wilson, TV presenter, king pin of the Hacienda and at the forefront of the Manchester music scene in the 80's and 90's. Heady times indeed.

A great tribute by all those in the video and effectively using the magnificent New Order track Your Silent Face.

A great remix by the legend Andy Weatherall, with some amazing strings.

R.I.P Tony and Andy.

I couldn't resist also posting the amazing New Order track which inspired this record, as it was always one of my faves growing up.

I saw the Michael bio-movie last night and it just emphasised what a fantastic artist MJ was.

It pains me that his amazing legacy is somewhat tarnished and he's not remembered in the way that much lesser musicians were.

He was a truly one in a generation artist and I only have positive thoughts and beliefs of him.

His vocals and whole presence in the songs he created were just on another level.

This is a much more laid back, very soulful and much more Balearic than dancefloor, but nonetheless wonderful.

Michael will always remain as one of the great artists to have walked this plant and I will only ever have the utmost respect for his influence on music.

A fantastic track which is a feature of many Balearic mix sets.

This one is over 50 years old and always sounds great.

Super chilled with some great vocals which have been sampled many times, some great guitar chords and some great saxophone.

Just an all time classic.

I feel like talking a walk!

Very much on the Balearic tip, that being very eclectic and not totally aimed at the dancefloor, yet a track which just just so great it would make a great closing track.

Lights on and this blasting out as everyone came together as one on the floor.

It's just a great pop sone from 1985, but 40 years on, it still sounds awesome.

The saxophone in this is superb also, as with many 80's tracks.

This was very much a one hit wonder, but oh what a hit.

Certainly worthy of PCC status in that true Balearic mould.

Balearic baby yeah!

Yet another track which I can't quite believe I haven't posted before.

This was a big Balearic classic and still sound great.

Possibly a little more Indie Dance than mainstream club, but great all the same.

It sounds very Andy Weatherall-esque in style, but I don't think the great man had any involvement in it.

A definite Balearic classic though!

Love this track from the legend that is Boy George.

This is in his Jesus Loves You alter ego which covers his adoption o Buddhism and the Hari Krishna vibe.

It's a lovely piece of Balearic indie dance with some great chants and of course some delightful piano.

A real feel good vibe.

The Grid's remix work from that era was just top notch!

What is wrong in my life?

 A brilliant piece of pure pop music which could still cut it on the dancefloor.

This is over 40 years ago and was when bands made proper music using proper instruments.

If you just look at all the instruments used on this song you can really appreciate the sheer craftsmanship of creating a pop song in those days.

There are quite a few dance remixes of this track, but none compare to the sheer and raw beauty of this original version.

A timeless classic and worthy status as a PCC for maybe a set opener to warm up the floor.

Fine Young Cannibals - Johnny Come Home

Now I wish I'd stayed!

I keep coming back to this track and have played it hundreds of times.

Is it dancefloor fodder, no not really, is it immense - absolutely.

I think it could be part of a Balearic set and could imagine it being great at somewhere like Cafe Del Mar.

It has such an amazing aura about and it's beautifully sung by Charli as a tribute to the passing of he friend/mentor Sophie (Xeon).

Pure class.

Love this track from 1992 which I still have on vinyl 12" tucked away in my garage somewhere.

The original mix is just a joyful - sound of summer, real piece of Balearic bliss, whilst the Junior Style House Dub is Farley and Heller doing what they do best; creating funky house grooves.

Espiritu were a great act and produced some really unique and vibrant tracks in the early 90s.

All we need is some sunshine now (but not much chance of that Mid January in Blighty!).

Tribute to the all time legend!

It was with great sadness that we learnt of the passing of the legend that was DJ Alfredo on Christmas eve.

It is not too far to say that Acid House and dance music as we have experienced for over 35 years wouldn't have happened without the inspiration and genius of Alfredo.

It was Alfredo and his legendary sets at Amnesia in 1987 which ignited the passion of Paul Oakenfold, Danny Rampling, Nicky Holloway (and many others) that lead to the development of the Acid House scene in the UK, which then exploded into the rave scene and the rest is dance music history.

After being entranced by his totally eclectic Balearic sets in Amnesia, they all returned to the UK and tried to recreate the same vibe and scene.

Oakey created the Project club, Spectrum and then Land of Oz, Danny created Shoom and Nicky created, Sin and Trip and Acid House was well and truly born.

All down to the inspiration created by Alfredo.

A huge part of Alfredo's DJing philosophy was playing a massive variety of different types of tracks many of which weren't strictly dance tracks put played at the right time mixed in the right way were just pure gold.

How do I pick a single track to honour the passing of the great legend?

Well having thought about it some what, I thought of a track which was not strictly dance, but just perfect and fully epitomised the tracks which Alfredo dropped at Amnesia.

So here it is a wonderful piece of Balearic artistry frequently dropped by Alfredo at Amnesia.

Rest In Peace legend Alfredo - we will always be indebted for the inspiration you provided which created the scene which we all took so much pleasure from.

 Wham on the PCC blog, who'd of thought it, but the PCC mantra has always been about quality and not musical snobbery.

This is a great remix and Sgt Slick (aka Andrew Ramanauskas) is an absolute master at converting pop tracks into very credible dance floor smashes, this is one such example.

I could well imagine this being dropped by some of the more eclectic DJs, it would also be a great end of night track to finish a set.

Imagine this coming on after a night of intense clubbing and the lights coming on.

Dancefloor delirium would ensue!

Another Balearic classic from back in the day 1989.

Just a mad track, with loads going on, but just proper Balearic.

There's no pigeon-holing this type of track it just cuts across everything and is hence true to the essence of Balearic.

Top class!

Although I never DJ'd I always think about tracks I'd play if I had my own club night and a dedicated audience.

This would have certainly been a last track of the night selection.

After 2 hours of pumping house music, I'd gradually wind the night down - on go the lights and then I'd drop this.

Perfect Balearic bliss.

I first came across this track as a 9 year old and still have the original vinyl 7" single and yes, it still sends the same shivers down my spine every time I hear it.

The vocals, the piano, the saxophone, the guitar, the amazing lyrics, the pause mid-song, the emotions, this will always be an eternal classic.

"You drink your coffee and I sip my tea"

Hazel O'Connor - Will You

If we fall apart, let's do it in the dark!

The original thesis of this blog was to showcase some of the many, many fantastic tracks which have rocked clubland throughout the decades, but with a specific focus around the halcyon days of 1987 to 2000.

However, in recent years I've also incorporated lots of new tracks and the odd track which are probably not quite of a clubland vibe, but with a little imagine could be used to open or close a set.

This is one such example. I'll loosely tag it as Balearic which is a great catch all for all things eclectic and in the true spirit of the original Ibiza, Alfredo - Amnesia vibe.

I've listened to this track hundreds of time and it never fails to touch those raw emotions which only truly fantastic tracks can.

It is a masterpiece of beauty with absolutely stunning piano chords and Yebba's vocals are just on another level and the backing singers are right on point.

A pure Balearic masterpiece, just imagine this being dropped last track at 7am in morning at the end of an amazing rave/clubbing night in the late 80's/early 90's.

Heavenly!

Possibly a bit commercial for some of the purists, but always one of those tracks which would guarantee dancefloor delirium.

The beauty of dance music is that it comes in all shapes and sizes and good is good, which is what the PCC blog is all about.

Staying on the Balaearic vibe.

Loved this track from the first time I heard it on the Pete Tong Essential Selection in 1994 (which I religiously tuned in to).

It is just such a funky and catchy piece of Balearic delight.

Still sounds great and just as unique 30 years on.

Very chilled and Balearic in essence, it contains some lush piano and is such a sensational track.

One you never tire of hearing.

Sublime and no surprise to know this is another Dave Lee/Joey Negro production which just adds to his legend status and proof of longevity.

Get your Balearic boots on, this heavenly.

Possibly the slowest track I've ever posted on the PCC blog in view of bpms.

However, the lack in speed is made up by the sheer quality of the track.

Ok, probably not one to drop at the peak of a set, but what about an end of the night track?

Without doubt the best track Spandau ever produced - it always amazes me that it wasn't a bigger hit.

The piano, the vocals, the sax, the harmonies and oh that chorus.

Heavenly!

Heard this for the first time the other day and have hardly stopped playing it since.

Totally Balearic but absolutely fantastic.

Very raw and earthy with a great funky little vibe, wonderful lyrics and superb vocals.

I think Lola will be a big star (probably already is).

I'd say a cross between Billy Eilish and Adele?

Superb track which really kicks when the guitars and drums come in.
