I came across this article which I read in the Independent yesterday which indicates new laws which could soon be coming into force and a crackdown on both the uploading and downloading of music from the net.
Reading between the lines, it could pose a threat to blogs like this one. However, that would seem ludicrous - as over 90% of the links posted on this blog are for tracks that are over 10 to 15 years old (in some cases 20), that have long been deleted and hence we are simply making this fantastic music available to a wider audience. In many aspects we (the bloggers) are promoting the artists and their music and encouraging you the dance music enthusiasts to purchase the original material (if it is still available) which it quite often isn't.
Our blogs are not a threat to the music industry or a threat to up and coming artists or bands.
I'd be keen to hear further views on this from bloggers and blog followers alike.
In my opinion the future is uncertain and potentially blogs like this may ultimately be forced to close??
Which would be a great shame. Maybe we should all be voting for the Pirate Party UK
The link to the article is below;
On a more postitive note lets put out another quality track. (While we can!!!)
A huge thank you to Chris for supplying me with some quality tunes and suggestions of late.
Just check this one out. Bananarama have never sounded so good. Did you spot the "ooh ooh" sample? Also the intro starts very much like Fools Gold - don't you think??

money grabbing bastards the lot of 'em. bloody record companies have had it good for so long, its not even about the music anymore. if like me you worked in music retail, you'll know that music is sold as 'units' the more you sell, the happier the management are - even if its shitty pop bollox (remember a1 etc?) Artists are treated like idiots most of the time and only see a % of the money THEY made making the music. unfortunatly, it wont change, 'the man' wont let it, blogs like this represent a haemorrage of potential income, and that cant be allowed. it impressive just how greedy some people can be!

the problem is not with blogs posting old tracks
its the blogs that are giving away new and unreleased trax at 320kbps
labels (many small) cant sell their releases digitally as peopel are going to blogs. they download and have no intention of purchasing whether they like it or not
these types of blogs should be closed down as being a producer its hard enoup to re-coop and pay musicians and vocalists, etc
not every producer is a megastar, nor do they make music just for money, but we should be able to cover our costs and sell our music.
if blogs were posting "samples" at 96kbps no one would mind. but at 320 you kill sales.
if lawsuits being thrown at rapidshare, there is talk of blogger (google) being investigated next as they make it so difficult for artists to get their stuff removed.
i like blogs but i wish people would see the full picture its not all "promote the artists", etc
regards
Hi,
This is in repsonse to the excellent comments left by anonymous above. I fully understand your point and many of the aspects which you raise.
However, my blog is very much based at posting those fantastic tracks from the clubbing era which I experienced, namely 1987 to 2000. Many of the people who follow this blog and contribute with providing links and tracks are also dance music enthusiasts from that era. We are simply trying to share our love with the music from that era with all those who weren't fortunate enough to have lived through it and experienced it. Our (this blog's)intention isn't to stifle sales of the small labels. I very rarely post any new tracks, the main reason being that the music being produced nowadays simply doesn't compare to the standard of the tracks which came out in the 1987-2000 era. I'm always more than happy to remove anything from the blog which people may have an objection with.
What I guess is likely to happen is that all blogs will become "tarred with the same brush" and hence all treated alike (forced to closedown), which would be unfair, but it could be out of our control. Let's hope not.
Best regards,
Pure Club Classics
