I am the magnificent!

Just love this track, brought to my attention when it appeared on the infamous T.W.A Essential Mix, which was one of my all time fave mix sets.

Those guys were different class and they created some amazing nights at Vague in Leeds.

Great memories.

This track epitomises their totally off the wall Balearic stylee!

You know you "gotta have it!!" again!

I've had lots of request to re-post this.
It took an absolute age to track it down.
I first came across it when Luvdup dropped it when they played at Vague in 1993.
Absolutely top notch little track which was then mixed into Outrage - Tall N' Handsome.
Lovely (much better than Joe Le Taxi).

Sugar baby love, sugar baby love.......

Everyone has their favourite old DJ mix tapes.
One of my favourite ever was from a night at Vague in 1993 when the LuvDup Twins played.
It was probably one of the most eclectic sets I've heard, but also one of the most brilliant.
It totally epitomised what in my opinion the word "Balearic" truly stood for, a complete mish mash of styles, disco, mixed with funk, mixed with pop, mixed with house, mixed with cheese, mixed with handbag, mixed with all time classics, there is absolutely everything in that mix set. It is sensational.
If anyone wants to hear it, remind me to post it one day.
I've managed to track down nearly all the tracks from that set and many are posted on the blog.
This was one of the few that I hadn't tracked down and it was just typical of the set they played (although the version they played was without vocals. However, the vocals IMHO make it even better).
This was sort of track that no other DJ's would play, but so uplifting and amazing in a club like Vague, where absolutely anything goes.
Some may think it's a bit cheesy, but I think it is absolutely fantastic, just so uplifting.
It was originally released back in 1974, but this was remixed in 1987 by Joe Glasman.
A huge PCC in my book, tried and tested on the UK's finest dancefloors.
Enjoy!!

"Do you wanna funk"?

Absolutely love this track - hard to belive it is nearly 30 years old.
I remember hearing the Luvdup Twins play this at Vague in Leeds back in 1993.
What a legendary club that was and a superb night.
I've got the mix tape of that night and it is one of my favourite all time DJ mix sets.
Talk about Balearic heaven, it jumps from dance, house, disco, old skool, nu skool and about every other genre of music which was rocking the dancefloors in those days. Luvdup were DJ legends.
About this track, well it's just an all time classic and funky as hell.
Really great production, with some great lyrics and those amazing funky vocals.
"Do we wanna funk"? Yes, hell we do!!

You know you "gotta to have it"!!

"Well I've got to have it" - it could be the opening line to many a sentence. This track for instance, as once you've heard it you'll certainly need to "have it".
This one is an absolute top notcher, very, very mellow and very balearic in style, but a track I absolutely love.
I first heard it when the Luvdup Twins played at Vague in 1993 and have loved it ever since, they mixed it into Outrage - Tall and Handsome - which then ensued to "blow the roof off"!!
After searching for it for years, a big shout goes out to Dirk for tracking it down for me, nice one fella!
Vanessa Paradis in a music sense is probably better known for "Joe Le Taxi" and of course is even better known as an uber famous model, actress and of course wife of Johnny Depp.
The track is very laid back very infectious, with some lovely vocals and some very catchy lyrics.
It's about her relationship at the time (1992) with Lenny Kravitz, if you hadn't guessed.
"But I gotta have it, watching for the damage, from New York straight to Paris, I'm talking Lenny Kravitz"
You know you "gotta to have it"!!
Enjoy!!

Are we all ready to "Doop"??

Well here's goes risking my credibility and reputation again here, but who cares?
I'm sure you all remember this one.
If I'm not mistaken I think it even got to number 1 in the Charts??
Well, there was a time when this was an absolute cracking club tune.
I remember it going down an absolute storm when played at Vague, everyone just lost it and went crazy when it came on.
Then again there weren't many clubs other than Vague that could have got away with playing this.
Believe me, it was an absolute PCC in it's day, hard to believe now, although in my mind it still sounds great.
Really annoyingly catchy, or just plain daft?? You decide?
If nothing else I'm sure it made you laugh or brought back a few good memories!!
Come on lets "Doop" - I know you want to!!

Staying on the Theme of Gay Anthems!!!!

I've mentioned on this blog, before that although a strictly hetero guy, I had some of my best clubbing nights and memories at gay clubs like Vague and Paradise Factory.
The atmosphere there was just electric and one of free abandon, with one sole purpose to dance as much as possible and to have the best time possible. There was less postruing and posing than in straight clubs, people just went there to have a fantastic time and get messy!!
This track has to be one of the true gay anthems and it comes with a monstrous and I repeat monstrous remix from T-empo. This remix is simply huge, with some banging piano and some fantastic "hands in the air" moments.
Trouble was I could never quite bring myself to sing the chorus, well certainly not in the middle of Vague. Lol
Enjoy - it's a monster!!!

Let's stay on the Disco vibe!!!

Peeps it is of vital importance to pay homage to Disco.
If we hadn't had disco we wouldn't have house music and if we hadn't had house music wouldn't the world be a much sadder place.
It never ceases to amaze me how many of the great house tracks can be traced back to disco, whether its samples, riffs, lyrics, beats whatever.
This is a fantastic classic disco track brought up to date with a 90's feel - also known as the theme from The Soul Train.
It was a huge Vague track and it's a really fantastic piece of music.
It retains the classic disco feel, but has that 90's kick.
Disco will never die.
Enjoy!!

TWA on the Mix!!!!

Conscious that I've not posted many DJ mix sets on the blog and as this is one of the areas requested by people in the recent poll, there'll be plenty coming in the next few months.
As always with this blog I'm very careful to make sure that only the best club classics are posted and to date this has meant only one DJ mix set has been posted so far. That was the Chris and James Essential Mix from 1994 - which still remains the best DJ mix set I have ever heard and was posted some time ago. There were only 2 other Essential Mix sets that I thought ran this close and they were the Paul Oakenfold Goa Mix and this fantastic mix by TWA.
Now anyone whoever saw TWA DJ live particularly at Vague may remember that they weren't technically the greatest DJ's, but for what they lacked in technical quality they made up for in terms of energy, ethusiasm and the total desire to give the crowd they were playing to a truly wonderful night. This mix epitomises their style totally eclectic, whacky, but seroiusly great club music.
Coupled with some great input from Vague's finest door person - Madame Jo Jo (now better known as Jo Jo on Galaxy FM), this mix is truly out there as one of the best ever.
Anyone who ever went to Vague will love this, anyone who didn't have a listen as you'll love it just too.

Take your Passion and make it happen!!!

Possibly one of the cheesiest tracks I've posted on the blog, but that doesn't stop it being a great track and well worthy of being posted.
This was a huge favourite in the camper clubs back in 1995.
It was huge at Vague in Leeds and was a track absolutley hammered by Jon of the Pleased Wimmin (who also did a remix of the track - which wasn't as good as this original mix).
It might well be cheesy, but you can't help but like it.
It's certainly got plenty of passion!!

More hands in the air please!!!

Here's another great track that just built and built and then finally exploded.
It had that oh so familar guitar riff from "Funky Guitar".
That's the great thing about dance tracks, they never have any shame in sampling each others tracks.
You may recall that The Flavour had an absolute club monster with "No Matter What You Do". While this one is now quite in that league, it's none the less a great track and was massive at Vague in Leeds and also Paradise Factory in Manchester and absolutely hammered by the likes of Jon of the Pleased Wimmin and TWA.
A really great club tune that never failed to set the dancefloor alight.
I've posted TC1992 as well, so you can haer the comparison and the guitar riff. Now this tune brings back some amazing memories of Back To Basics in Leeds. Whenever this track was played it was always one of the highlights of the night "1,2,3,4". I guess because it was so unique. There was simply nothing else like it out there at the time.
"Ain't no words to this song, you just dancing all alone"
Great memories, great times, great tracks. Enjoy people!!!

Come on; Rock the Discotheque!!!!

Another track I'd been searching for, for quite some time.
Huge shout out to Gav for tracking this down for me.
That's 2 absolute corkers and 2 of my most wanted tracks from my "most wanted" list.
Respect Fella. TopMan.
About the track, I first heard it at Vague in Leeds, in 1994 and simply fell in love with it.
It's got some amazing piano, that sounds really crisp all the way through the track.
I have to put it down as one of my many all times faves.
It's the sort of track that you can't not like. It'd be simply impossible not to like it. Isn't it??
Get your ears around it, it's a hard to find, not widely played; true club classic!!!

You Got Me Burning Hot For You!!!!

Big shout out to DJ Ste - for tracking this one down for me, it's been on the blog "Most Wanted" list for about 3 months. Visit his blog at http://oldschoolhousemusic1990-2000.blogspot.com/
It's tops - nice work fella.
In fact I've had some great contributions to reducing my most wanted list recently, so huge shouts out to the Grim Reaper and Antti also. Respect Fella's!!
Back to the track, I first heard it at Vague in Leeds in 1993 and have loved it ever since.
It's got great tempo, really pumping beats and of course fantastic piano!!
"Lost in you, I just can't wait-er, wanting you, your love is gonna to wake up"
"lost in you I just can't wait no, thats the way you must put love in faith"
"You got me burning, got me burning hot for you"
Love it!!

A true Vague Classic!! Anyone for a disco biscuit??

Those "Boys" TWA (Trannies With Attitude) sure knew how to rock the place. They were the resident DJs at Vague in Leeds and used to play some fantastic tunes back in 1993.
Vague was one of those clubs that you had to see to believe. Very gay, very camp, but the girls in there were fantastic and most importantly the music and atmosphere was simply amazing.
Being strictly hetero lads (and girls) it was always a challenge to get in as Madam JoJo would scrutinise and question you on the way in. Madam JoJo also features on the track and can now be heard hosting on Galaxy 105.
I remember being there when this track was played live for the very first time.
It was put on last track of the night with the first acetate pressing, as you can imagine the place absolutely erupted and this went on to be the Vague anthem.
Turn up the volume loud and go crazy to this one. Oh yeah the disco bicuits helped too!!
Disco!! Disco!! Disco!! Disco!! Disco!!

Yes - This is the Way!!!

A great track that brings back some fantastic memories. I particularly remember it being played last tune of the night at Vague in Leeds in 1993.
There are loads of versions of this track and most of them are horrible Euro gabba/hardcore nonsense, with a ridiculous fast beat and dreadful cheesy nature.
This mix is absolutely rocking though and accompanied by some banging piano and of course not forgetting the wonderful "Maria, Maria, Maria, Maria" sing-a-long.
A truly great track.
P.S. No prizes for guessing the picture of the E-Type!!

An absolutely Stonking Tune!!

The Icelandic Pop Dwarf', gets transformed into a club monster courtesy of Lion Rock aka, Justin Robertson. This track was explosive in clubland, lighting up many of the nations dancefloors. Particularly remember this at Vague in Leeds. Awesome track!! Enjoy.

Truly Bangin!!

This brings back great memories. I recall being in Vague at the Warehouse in Leeds and they played this 4 times in one night it was so hot.
Any track that slows down, almost stops and then speeds up and takes off - just seems to have an amazing effect on the dancefloor.
People used to literally lose it whan this came on.
Check the piano!!
